Johnny Romano R.I.P. - 2008-09-25 14:30:42
On September 23rd Johnny Romano lost his battle with cancer. He was 10 years old. Many of you may remember him as the Make A Wish/Texas Skate Jam recipient from last year in Houston. Also the REAL skateboard company did a deck in his honor to help the family with his care expenses. Johnny was a skater and inspired many with his passion for skateboarding and life. His family home is Galveston is now unihabitable because of Hurricane IKE. If you would like to help a fellow skater and his family in their time of need, click on the johnnykickscancer link on the Ripperz homepage. Skate for those who can no longer skate.
Hurricanes Gustov & Ike - 2008-09-17 11:08:55
Ripperz made it through Gustov & Ike just fine. The park and shop are open normal hours. The recent storms have been tough regionally on the skate scene.

Skate Spot in Lafayette was shut down due to Gustov but is back up and running.

Southside in Houston got water from Ike. They are redoing the park. They started on Sep 8th and expect to have a new reconfigured park around Sep. 28th.

Ohana Skate in Galveston. We have not heard how they are doing but we are hoping for the best.

Buy from your local shops! Your support is SO important to the rebuild after the storms and keeping skateboarding alive in your area. Skate shops and parks are hit hard financially when their businesses are closed for ANY length of time. Help take care of your skate scene!! As we have seen lately it can be taken away from you overnight!
